După studii de teatru la Şcoala Internațională de Teatru şi Mişcare Jacques Lecoq şi apoi la Academia de Teatru şi Film din România (clasa Profesor SANDA MANU), Vanina Vignal si-a  inceput cariea ca actriţă. Apoi a fost asistent de montaj si asistent de regie, înainte de a realiza propriile proiecte de filme documentare de autor*. Activitatea sa ca cineast nu se limitează doar la filmele ei. Cuprinde şi cursuri de cinema pe care le susține în licee din Franța şi România. Impreună cu Ambasada Franței din România si cu Societatea Culturală NexT, este co-fondatoarea unui proiect de anvergura « Education à l’image » în licee. Vanina face parte in mod regulat din jurii ale festivalurilor internaționale de film, si traduce scenarii sau filme (subtitraj) din limba română în limba franceză. A facut selecția de filme pentru ADDOC (Asociația Cineaştilor Documentarişti), ACID (Asociația de Difuzare a Cinematografiei Independente) si ACID Cannes. Iar începând cu 2018, face selectia si programare, impreuna cu Andrei Rus, pentru Festivalul International de Film Documentar și Drepturile Omului ONE WORLD ROMANIA – şi in timpul anului, pentru Cine-club OWR.
* Vanina Vignal : Cum trăim, dupa? Atunci când am crescut sub dictatură, când ne-am format sub dictatură, când ea face parte din noi – în ciuda a toate cele. A săpa « acolo unde doare » este ceea ce am facut pentru filmele mele anterioare din România (secrete de familie sub dictatura comunistă, imigrarea după căderea comunismului), si este ceea ce fac în continuare pentru viitoarele mele filme: din Franţa (incestul), din Germania (de-a lungul cicatricei interioare pe fosta graniţă dintre RFG si RDG), si este ceea ce vreau să fac şi pentru următorul meu film din România (cu tineri din comunitatea LGBTQi+).

Vanina Vignal has translated and adapted Stella’s, Dimi’s (TV command) and After the silence’s subtitles. She will translate the other films she’ll shoot in Romania.

In 2008, she also translated Three days in Tanacu, a fiction feature length scenario, for Lucian Pintilie, but its production was interrupted.
The story became the scenario of Beyond the Hills, by Cristian Mungiu (based on the non fiction novel of Tatiana Niculescu Bran), premiered in Cannes in 2012.
